We Got By With a Little Help From Our Friends at Stella & Dot!

Another Fall Favourite

Here's another outfit I've been wearing a lot lately.  Because I have so many great new pieces to choose from, it is my clothing that has been taking centre stage and the accessories that have been staying the same!  Nice change of pace for me.

Lola & Gigi Fall Editorial Shoot



This year I decided to try something new with our photo shoots and do something a little more "editorial".  I've loved reading fashion magazines since I was a girl (I used to ask my mom to buy Vogue at the checkout line) but lately I haven't been feeling the love the way I used to.  Maybe it is because there is very little for me in these "high fashion" magazines.  Don't get me wrong, I think that all the attention so-called "plus size" models (usually a size 8 or 10) are getting in the media lately is great.  We need more diverse images of beauty out there in the universe.  It is all good.  But what about some editorial-style pictures of clothes that I can actually buy?  Where are those?  So I thought, what the heck, I'd create them myself!

So here they are - I'd love to know what you think.








With a fabulous team -  model Britt (a stunning size 14), photographer Adam & his assistant Lelania, hair & makeup artist Lori, videographer Michael, stylists Maddie & Isabella (my nieces!), my new right-hand woman Steph, and last but not least my amazing husband (I can't list all the things he does!) - I think we created some amazing shots!  Many thanks to Mirjana, Stella & Dot stylist, for loaning us most of the fabulous jewellery in the shots.

By the way, all of these pictures were shot at our house - in our living room, the back parking pad (on my husband's Vespa) and on our front porch!

What I wore to dinner last night.

Had a great dinner last night with my girlfriends from high school.  We're all hitting a big milestone birthday this year - I'll leave you to guess which one ;-) - which means lots of different celebrations.  Here's what I wore to dinner last night.  I wore the cardi open to show off the fabulous fringe on the Anna Scholz top of course.

In Praise of Sitting on My Lily Pad


I've found in the natural rhythm of my life, there are certain months that I just need to go underground.  Like a bear or a caterpillar, I feel the need in February and July to take some time for myself to hibernate and cocoon.  To simply be and not do.  

Eventhough I often emerge on the other end of it renewed and reinvigorated, I'm only now learning to just go with it.  In the past, there has been some guilt attached to it, like I should be producing more, doing more at this time.  Struggling against what my body seems to crave & need, pushing against the current to fulfill some unknown entity's idea of what I should be doing.

Now I'm going to endeavor to just luxuriate in it or "swim around it it" (to borrow a phrase from Meg Ryan's character in the movie "French Kiss").  I realize that as an entrepreneur, a wife, a homeowner, a daughter, an aunt, a friend, there are plenty of weeks and months when I am constantly doing something and when the iPhone and MacBook are a fixed presence at my side (or on my coffee table for that matter).  

I also realize that although it seems like I'm not doing anything, I'm actually doing a lot.  I'm reading (I can't even count how many books I've read this July), I'm cooking, I'm napping, I'm watching movies, I'm spending time with my lovely husband.  I'm living!   

These two months are the time for me to just be gentle with myself, to power-down and not question the process.  It might look a lot like laziness but what I've come to understand is that it is a crucial part of who I am and how I can do what I do the rest of the year.  I need down time.  I need to sit on my lily pad and sun myself on a rock.  How else will I have the energy to leap into action when I need to?

So here's to sitting on a lily pad and to getting back into the swing of things!
